Abstract
This paper deals with the determinants of the gap between the subjective cognition and the objective condition in the social exclusion. The social exclusion is categorized by five areas including economy, housing, employment, health and social networks/participation. The cases of 14,306 householders aged over 20 from the Korea Welfare Panel Study(2012) are used for this study. The main results are as follows: Firstly, the level of the gap between the subjective cognition and the objective condition in the social exclusion is different in each category of the social exclusion. Secondly, the main determinants of the gap are age, gender, residential area, marital status, and so on. The gap of housing area is related to the factors of age, sex, residential area, marital status, and so on. In the employment area, the gap is related to the factors of sex, residential area, income, employment status, occupation type, and so on. The gap of health area is mainly related to factors of age, residential area, marital status, education, and so on. The gap of social networks/participation area is related to factors of age, sex, marital status, education background, and so on. This paper suggests deeper investigations on the subjective aspects of the social exclusion to understand the most excluded people and to develop the social policies in Korea.
